Job Purpose
The Safety Assistant plays a crucial role in implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety practices throughout EKFC facilities. The primary objective is to identify, assess, and control workplace hazards, ensuring compliance with ISO 45001:2018 standards and UAE health and safety regulations. Working closely with the Safety Specialist, the Safety Assistant contributes to minimizing risks, preventing incidents, and promoting a strong safety culture across all operational areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct random inspections and safety audits across EKFC facilities to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with department heads, supervisors, and staff to monitor OHS performance and establish improvement goals.
- Assist in maintaining fire safety systems and emergency response readiness, including coordination with fire service providers and participation in evacuation drills.
- Ensure first aid kits, emergency exits, and fire equipment comply with safety standards and checklists.
- Monitor contractor adherence to EKFC’s safety procedures through inspections and report any non-compliance.
- Support the Safety Specialist in incident reporting, accident investigations, and root cause analysis.
- Prepare and submit daily safety reports highlighting observations, incidents, and follow-up actions.
- Promote safety awareness by conducting toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and internal training sessions.
- Maintain updated safety noticeboards, posters, and communication materials across departments.
- Participate in Health and Safety Committee meetings and ensure corrective actions are tracked and implemented effectively.
Qualifications & Experience
Educational Requirements:
- NEBOSH International or General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety – Mandatory
- ISO 45001:2018 Lead Auditor Certification – Preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a safety-related role, preferably within industrial, catering, or aviation environments.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of OHS legislation, risk management, and ISO 45001:2018 standards.
- Excellent communication skills in English (both written and verbal).
- Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks under pressure.
- Flexible to work shifts and provide 24/7 operational safety support when required.
Work Environment
This position operates within Emirates Flight Catering’s diverse business units, encompassing catering, aviation, and manufacturing facilities. The Safety Assistant must be adaptable to working in a 24/7 operational setup, providing on-call support and responding to emergencies whenever required. The role demands physical presence across different locations within the EKFC premises to ensure compliance and active monitoring.
