Job Purpose

The General Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality support across the facility. The role focuses on maintaining cleanliness, ensuring health and safety compliance, supporting operations and events, and delivering a welcoming and professional experience for all customers, visitors, and staff. This position contributes directly to creating a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for everyone who uses the facility.


Key Roles & Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure the health and safety of customers, visitors, staff, and contractors at all times
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and monthly statutory operational safety checks
  • Follow all Health & Safety regulations, Normal Operating Procedures (NOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures
  • Support incident management and escalate issues to the Duty Manager when required

Customer Service & Front-of-House

  • Provide a friendly, professional welcome to customers and visitors
  • Act as a key point of contact for enquiries, complaints, and general assistance
  • Handle customer concerns with empathy and professionalism, escalating when necessary
  • Support reception and customer service duties as required
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of facilities, programmes, and events

Operations & Facility Support

  • Assist with cleaning and tidying of indoor and outdoor areas
  • Set up and dismantle equipment for sessions, events, and programmes
  • Issue hired equipment and fleet bikes to customers
  • Monitor locker usage and bike storage areas
  • Collect, clean, inspect, and prepare equipment for reuse
  • Support basic inspection and maintenance of equipment and bike fleets

Sales, Promotion & Outreach

  • Confidently upsell products and services to meet customer needs
  • Support promotional and outreach activities to increase engagement

Teamwork & Professional Conduct

  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to ensure smooth operations
  • Work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and peak periods
  • Participate in staff training and ongoing professional development
  • Support inclusivity and accessibility, assisting People of Determination
  • Carry out additional duties aligned with the role as required

Qualifications & Certifications

  • Fluency in English (additional languages are an advantage)
  • First Aid at Work certification preferred
  • Defibrillator user training preferred
